Family of Jazz returns after spring COVID-19 cancellations
Decidedly, Jazz Danceworks ends its series of jazz family which started in the spring.
The show had its world premiere at the end of April, at the DJD Dance Center in downtown Calgary, but days before the show ended on May 15, the company was forced to shut it down due to an outbreak of COVID- 19 among the dancers.
“This news is all so fresh, but we are already working on how we can (hopefully) reschedule the final performances until the end of September,” said DJD artistic director Kimberley Cooper. “Please give us a few days to create a plan and come up with an appropriate proposal for those of you who have tickets (our ticket manager is also currently in self-isolation with symptoms). Of course, we will be happy to refund any tickets if that is your preference.”
Earlier this week, the company announced two performances of Jazz Family, on September 22 and 23, before heading to Toronto to present excerpts of the show at the FFDN Festival from September 30 to October 1.
jazz family is described as “a joyous piece featuring dancers DJD, live music by Rubim of Toledo Ensemble as well as new choreographed work by Brandi Coleman, Melanie George, Lisa La Touche and Kimberley Cooper”.
