Frost Music Live Signature Series kicks off the 2022 season on Valentine’s Day!

The Frost School of Music at the University of Miami has announced the lineup for the critically acclaimed Signature Frost Music Live series. Beginning on Valentine’s Day, the 2022 lineup features music for all members of the family, from classical to jazz, from winners of multiple GRAMMYs, NEA Jazz Masters and MacArthur Fellows, to the brightest and newest artists. most innovative happening in music today.
Most concerts are held at Gusman Concert Hall, located on the University of Miami campus, 1314 Miller Drive in Coral Gables. Tickets, more information and the latest COVID guidelines can be accessed through the website www.frostmusiclive.com.
In accordance with the policy established at the start of the pandemic, all concerts (unless otherwise indicated) will be broadcast live via the school’s YouTube channel.

The opera is based on the internationally acclaimed 1958 novel Il Gattopardo by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa, later adapted into an award-winning classic film starring Burt Lancaster, Claudia Cardinale and Alain Delon. Don Fabrizio Corbera, Prince of Salina, known as “The Leopard” for his towering personality, is a member of an impoverished, soon to be obsolete aristocracy who reluctantly adapts to the modern world to secure his family’s future – and in doing so, sacrifices the happiness of one of them.Frost Opera Theater and Frost Symphony Orchestra create this third collaborative opera by composer Michael Dellaira and poet/librettist JD McClatchy, completed shortly before Ms. McClatchy in 2018.

The New York Times describes her voice as “beautiful and melting”. Opera News says it is “a darkly hued lyrical instrument capable of considerable emotional power”. Lopez has performed internationally to great acclaim. She shares the stage with Drama Desk winner and Professor Frost Alan Johnson. The program includes operatic repertoire drawn from the iconic roles created by Lopez’s MET Opera performances. They will perform the Italian repertoire and songs by female composers. This is Lopez’s first faculty vocal recital since her appointment to Frost in 2019.

MacArthur “Genius” Fellow and GRAMMY winner Dafnis Prieto conducts the DownBeat Award-winning Frost Latin Jazz Orchestra. The program will highlight music from the GRAMMY-winning album, The Omni-American Book Club, by Professor Frost and GRAMMY-winner Brian Lynch. DownBeat said the album “raised Lynch’s vast body of work to ambitious new heights of accomplishment and recognition”. Lynch joins on trumpet and Prieto on drums. NPR says that Prieto, who is Cuban, “often stretches and shatters the expectations of direct jazz.” Don’t miss this special evening.
