JM Jazz World Orchestra calls for applications

JM International invites talented young jazz musicians between the ages of 18 and 26 to apply for the 2022 edition of the JM Jazz World Orchestra.

The JM Jazz World Orchestra (JMJWO) is the world’s first international youth jazz orchestra, made up of 21 talented jazz musicians selected in a global open audition by an international jury.

The group works with some of the best conductors, musicians and composers on the planet and tours every year, performing at prestigious European venues and jazz festivals.

Zimbabweans are also eligible to apply for this opportunity.

A statement released by the JM Jazz World Orchestra read: “We are looking for very talented musicians between the ages of 18 and 26, playing saxophone, trombone, trumpet, horn, tuba, guitar, bass, drums, percussion, piano and vocals. , and if you improvise, all other instruments are welcome. Reading sheet music is essential, but more important is your love for jazz!

Jazz music is one of Bulawayo’s most listened to genres with artists like Ramsey K, The Bulawayo Sweet Rhythm Band, The Cool Crooners, Gugulethu “Berita” Khumalo, Dorothy Masuka and the Jobs Combination playing a vital role in the revival jazz spirit. and such an opportunity could see the birth of a new Cool Crooner.

The JMJWO provides a unique opportunity for locals to perform with other top-class young jazz musicians from around the world and learn from some of the most accomplished jazz virtuosos on the planet who lead, mentor and perform alongside the ‘orchestra.

In addition to maintaining the highest standards of musicality, the orchestra provides an invaluable cross-cultural learning experience and a taste of life as an internationally touring musician.

American trombonist and composer/arranger Luis Bonilla will be back for the 2022 edition, continuing his exceptional work as artistic director. Bonilla is a Costa Rican-American trombonist, composer, arranger and educator.

The jury will select up to 25 musicians to form the JM Jazz World Orchestra 2022 and the announcement of the results will be made by the end of April. – @eMKlass_49
