Live Wire Athens will bring live music and classic southern barbecue to its venue on Saturday, January 18 at 3 p.m. to celebrate five years of operation.

With tickets starting at $ 10, Live Wire Athens will donate the proceeds from the event to the Nuçi Phillips Memorial Foundation. The Nuçi space in Athens maintains a resource center for musicians to seek “support and advice,” according to the venue’s website.

The music lineup begins with local country-rock group Heart of Pine, which will begin their set at 3:30 p.m., and other artists such as jazz trio Harvey, Funk & Walker, Moon Chief and Valerie Raye will follow. The Grateful Brothers – a local band inspired by the Grateful Dead and the Allman Brothers Band – will headline the show and perform at the end of the night.

Co-owner Daniel Robertson will also smoke an on-site barbecue starting at 3:30 p.m. and serve a complimentary meal while supplies last.

“We gladly chose the Nuci space as our fundraiser,” said Brenden Robertson, co-founder of Live Wire Athens. “They were without a doubt the number one and the first charity we wanted to involve.”

Live Wire Athens has previously collaborated with the nonprofit by donating its sound equipment to the organization and collaborating with giveaways for “a few years now,” according to Robertson.

Robertson said this support for other local businesses is important, especially in light of the multiple businesses that have closed over the past year. Part of Live Wire Athens’ success is due to the support of the local community and the relationships it has built with other companies over the years, said Robertson.

“We are a family business, we are here to stay and we couldn’t be more grateful for the five years of support and beyond,” said Robertson.

From the community, Robertson expects to see “a lot of familiar faces” as Live Wire Athens has connections through its offsite production departments and members of the Athens Region Chamber of Commerce.
