The Perth International Jazz Festival (PIJF) is bigger and more diverse than ever in 2021.

The 2021 event brings new performance spaces, free community events and expansion to Busselton. It will offer the best for music lovers of all kinds, with performances aimed at jazz purists to those who enjoy jazz influenced sounds like funk, Latin, hip hop and beyond.

The celebrations begin with a free event at the State Theater Center with live Six Seasons sets from Dr Richard Walley with Junkadelic Orchestra, Daniel Susnjar’s award-winning Afro-Peruvian jazz group, and a live performance from Amsterdam by Tin Men and the Telephone, featuring a spicy combination of jazz tunes and tech called ‘GREATEST Show’.

PIJF’s hub for paid shows – The Rechabite – will host the Cotton Club Dance Party with the OZ Big Band, with an energetic 1920s swing to keep you rocking the night away.

Other highlights of Rechabite include a celebration of Helen Matthews, “WA’s first lady of jazz,” by Ali Bodycoat and Libby Hammer; and jazz saxophonist Jamie Oehlers presents the music of John Coltrane, with Ben Vanderwal on drums, Zac Grafton on bass and Harry Mitchell on piano.

Other locations have been added including the Cathedral Square and a secret rooftop in the CBD. “Grooves N Brews” in Northbridge Piazza will be transformed into an outdoor bar featuring artists like Liquid Project, Supathick, Trisk & Optamus Present: Prime Time and the Flewnt Boorloo Block Party.

“There is so much music to listen to during the Perth weekend and then at the Busselton Amphitheater on the foreshore the following Saturday. Come play! Take a risk with us and see as much music as you can, ”said festival director Dr Mace Francis.

“Discover new delicacies, reconnect with old favorites and have the best time. This festival is for YOU, and we can’t wait to see you there, from a distance.”
