Rochester Jazz Fest is canceled; Promises to be back in 2022

The Rochester International Jazz Festival has announced that it is postponing its next festival until 2022. In a letter to the press and fans, Mark Iacona and John Nugent, the producers of the event, described the ongoing pandemic issues. that made a July 2021 festival impossible.
“After intensive efforts to organize a festival this year, and despite the hope that a socially remote festival can take place this year in a more spacious location, it will not be viable from a business or health security perspective. because of the need. [New York] State health guidelines and capacity restrictions, ”they said in the letter. “We will be back in 2022 and we are committed to doing everything we can to move forward in downtown Rochester and also explore festival expansion with programming at the Rochester Institute of Technology.
Traditionally held in June, Iacona and Nugent had postponed the festival until the end of July in hopes of a more positive outlook for hosting live events in New York City. But state guidelines would require capacity restrictions that would make the festival’s production economically unfeasible, according to the letter.
“We fully realize that the loss of live music has created a huge void in our lives and ended the careers of many musicians,” said Iacona and Nugent. “We will be bringing RIJF back next year with the superior level of artistry that our clients have come to expect, and in an environment that will be inspiring and uplifting.
Founded in 2002, the festival has been a summer staple in upstate New York, drawing more than 200,000 attendees for more than 300 shows in 2019. For more information on the festival, see rochesterjazz.com. DB
