Saxophonist Monik Nordine takes the stage in Courtenay on October 6 – Comox Valley Record
After last week’s memorable Marc Atkinson concert, Georgia Straight Jazz Society has another internationally acclaimed jazz artist when saxophonist Monik Nordine takes the stage with two of her most respected jazz colleagues at the Flying Canoe at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday 6 october.
The Monik Nordine Trio includes Nick Peck on Hammond organ and Miles Fuller on drums.
“We’re going to deliver delicious soulful jazz in the spirit of 1970s Sonny Stitt and Don Patterson collaborations,” Nordine said.
“The trio have been performing from Stockholm to Vancouver over the past year and we look forward to this performance of funky soul jazz. It’s always pretty special to play for the Georgia Straight Jazz Society.
In addition to leading his trio, Nordine conducts the Victoria Jazz Orchestra and has also performed with Hugh Fraser and VEJI, the Hard Rubber Orchestra, Ian McDougall, Rob McConnell, Guido Basso, Michael Bublé, the Victoria Symphony Orchestra and more.
