Scarborough takes first DIRTcar Sportsman Series victory | Sports for adults / youth
PLATTSBURGH – Better to be lucky than good. John Scarborough was both Saturday.
Scarborough inherited the lead on lap 22 when former leader Andrew Buff made contact with a broken-in car which broke the right front end of his number 92 machine, forcing the Latham driver to withdraw from the event.
Scarborough led the full 30-car green flag field and quickly took a comfortable lead. Buff’s car came to life around lap 10, when he fought for first place. After several attempts to find a way around, Buff was able to push past it and move away to a dominant lead.
Buff was half a lead right away when he made contact with the car that clicked, ending his night and losing the lead to Scarborough, who never looked back en route to victory.
David Boisclair was in the mix all night and finished second, while Justin Severance completed the podium. Jordan Fornwalt and Richie Simmons completed the top five.
Zack Daniels withstood late pressure from Jim McKiernan at the Hartson Total Opening Pro Stock event. Daniels’ car started to fade in the final laps, while McKiernan’s car improved and applied pressure, but couldn’t complete a pass. Tylor Terry, Bill Fountain and Jason McClatchie finished third through fifth respectively.
Blayden Arquiett collected the checkered flag in the Limited Sportsman function, while Matt Parker claimed victory in the 4-cylinder main event.
The races resume this Saturday at 6 p.m.
