Southern Illinois Music Festival kicks off
(WSIL) – The 17th annual Southern Illinois Music Festival kicks off this week.
The festival runs from July 6 to 18. Highlights include the revised opera, “Covid fan tutte”. You can see this performance on Sunday, July 18 on the Heroes and Icons channel of News 3 WSIL, 3.2.
In addition to the opera, several chamber orchestral and chamber music performances, with Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons”, several concertos and wind arias, beautiful preludes by Verdi, Puccini and Debussy, masterpieces. rarely heard work for string octet by Raff and Glière, French chamber music for string quartet and wind quintet, piano trios by Mendelssohn and Shostakovich, the incredible Piano Quintet by Dvorak and many more will be presented , including a “Best of the Fest” concert the last weekend.
The free Jive with Jazz and Klassics for Kids events will also be featured.
Venues include the Shryock Auditorium, artspace304, Carbondale First United Methodist Church, Cairo Episcopal Church, Anna Presbyterian Church, and the Anna Arts Center.
Tickets for most Festival events are generally $ 20 and $ 10 for students of all ages ($ 25 and $ 10 for opera).
