Star-studded events at La Jolla Music Society take place in January

The Jolla Music Society (LJMS) opens in 2022 with a lineup of live performances at its world-class venue, the Conrad Prebys Performing Arts Center. From international superstars like Emanuel Ax, Wynton Marsalis and Lang Lang to global artists, dance, jazz, National Geographic speakers and more, the New Year is filled with eclectic programming and exciting artistic experiences at the heart of La Jolla.

January explodes with talent with world-renowned piano superstar Emanuel Ax in an all-Chopin program January 7 in the Baker-Baum concert hall, with an all-Chopin program of mazurkas; nocturnal; Polonaise-Fantasy, Op. 61; and the iconic Sonata No. 3 in B minor, Op. 58, presented as part of the Piano Series.

On January 20, the dance series begins with the famous ballet Alonzo King LINES presenting a series of excerpts from their nearly forty-year history, featuring stunning dancers and impeccable technique, creating an unforgettable dialogue between movement and music at the San Diego Civic Theater.

The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, conducted by Wynton Marsalis, presents fifteen of the best soloists, ensemble musicians and arrangers in jazz music today, making their highly anticipated return to San Diego in two concerts, one in Balboa Theater and the other in the more intimate environment of the Baker-Baum concert hall. Both will present the art of jazz at its best.

The Discovery series brings us on January 16 the pianist Zoltán Fejérvári, winner of the first prize of the Montreal International Musical Competition 2017, while the Global Roots series continues with Trey McLaughlin & The Sounds of Zamar, one of the most brilliant groups. and the most prolific of the gospel scene, on January 29.

Finally, the speaker series kicks off with Hilaree Nelson in Nat Geo Live: Skiing the Dream Line. Hilaree Nelson, 2018 National Geographic Adventurer of the Year, tells compelling stories about the passion, courage and teamwork behind the summit of Lhotse, the world’s fourth tallest mountain, with Jim Morrison when they are became the first to complete one of the most daring. all-weather ski slopes. This lecture and these questions and answers take place in the Baker-Baum concert hall.
