Friday 24 December
9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Nine Lessons and Songs Festival
When the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols was introduced to the King’s College community on Christmas Eve 1918, it was intended to provide solace at the end of the World War. This year, the internationally-broadcast Christmas Eve service featuring Bible readings, Christmas carols and associated seasonal classical music, seeks once again to bring a sense of comfort and community to all. Join the celebration as one of the world’s greatest choirs performs in the acoustically and architecturally renowned 500-year-old Chapel of King’s College, Cambridge, England.
12 p.m.-2 p.m. St. Louis on the Air presents A Christmas Carol
St. Louis Public Radio presents an immersive 2 hour special of the classic holiday tale, “A Christmas Carol”. Charles Dickens’ 1843 short story is told by Anne Williams, Kirkwood resident and historical interpreter.
7-8 p.m. A blue afro Christmas
Join us for a very special holiday concert featuring Howard University’s premier jazz vocal ensemble Afro Blue and special guest pianist Cyrus Chestnut. This exceptional a cappela group performs a variety of holiday songs including African American vocals, jazz and pop tunes, and classical repertoire. Afro Blue’s Happy Celebration features unique arrangements of traditional holiday songs as well as new compositions. Enjoy listening to this musical holiday treat, hosted by Michele Norris.
Saturday 25 December
2 p.m. to 4 p.m. St. Louis on the Air recall overview: A Christmas Carol
Join us for a replay of Charles Dicken’s classic 1843 Christmas tale, A Christmas Carol, narrated by Anne Williams, Kirkwood resident and historical performer.
Friday December 31
7 p.m. to 10 p.m. New Year celebration of the Orchester symphonique de Saint-Louis
Music director Stéphane Denève and the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra ring in 2022 with George Gershwin Rhapsody in blue and An American in Paris. The evening also includes performances by dazzling pianist Michelle Cann, and many other delightful surprises, including the world premiere by Missouri composer Stefan Freund. Traveler Fantasy with Roger Kaza, principal horn of the SLSO.
Saturday January 1
8 pm-10pm Vienna New Years Day 2022
Hosted by Lisa Mullins of WBUR, this popular annual New Year’s Eve concert will be performed by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Maestro Daniel Barenboim. The iconic orchestra serves as Austria’s musical ambassador to the world, sending New Year’s greetings to the world in a spirit of hope, friendship and peace.
