The 35th anniversary celebrations begin in April with
Herbie Hancock, with smoked robinson, Gregory Porter,
Michael kaeshammer and more in June

TORONTO, December 14, 2021 / CNW / – TD Toronto Jazz Festival celebrates 35th anniversary in 2022, kick off the celebrations with a special performance by the jazz legend Herbie Hancock to April 22 at the Meridian room – his only Canadian stop on this multi-city tour.

the 35th TD Toronto Jazz Festival, June 24 to July 3, will feature a variety of flagship shows and specials, including performances by the Motown icon smoked robinson, jazz superstar Gregory Porter, Canadian pianist and singer Michael kaeshammer, and more!

Tickets are on sale now at torontojazz.com. The full Festival lineup, including additional paid concerts, over 150 free concerts and other surprises, will be announced in the spring.

“We’ve been waiting for the return of live and in-person concerts for almost two years – and what better way to kick off our 35th anniversary celebrations than with living-legend Herbie Hancock,” noted Artistic director Josh grossman. “For so many music fans, Herbie Hancock a gateway to jazz, but also funk, soul, gospel and hip-hop. We are honored that he is chosen Toronto as the only Canadian stop on this upcoming tour, and I look forward to presenting this jazz master once again to an official Festival stage. “

With a career spanning more than 50 years, Herbie Hancock defied tradition, creating music that expands the possibilities of musical thought. With new music on the way, he remains a visionary architect of post-bop sound.

smoked robinson – Tuesday 28 June at the Meridian room
Musical icon smoked robinsonthe millions of hits sold helped launch the legendary Motown Records label; with over 4,000 songs to his credit over a 50-year career, his work has defined a generation of American music.

Michael kaeshammer – wednesday 29 june at the Koerner room
During his decades-long professional career, the JUNO Award-winning Canadian pianist and singer Michael kaeshammer has developed a style that weaves threads of classical, jazz, blues, boogie-woogie, stride and even pop into a signature sound.

Gregory Porter – Thursday June 30 at the Koerner room
Grammy Award-winning singer Gregory Porter has been acclaimed for its earthy and crossed brand of jazz, soul and gospel. His sixth studio album, All Rise, marked a return to his beloved original songwriting – heart-to-neck lyrics steeped in everyday philosophy and real-life details.
