Westben is gearing up for an unforgettable 2022 season featuring a wide range of performances from pop and rock to spoken word and comedy, in a 50-acre country setting.
Tickets are on sale now for Westben’s 23rd season of live concerts this summer. The month-long festival will feature more than 70 artists and 25 concerts of classical music, Broadway, jazz, folk, pop, violin, rock, opera and comedy.
An exciting new addition for the year is a spoken word performance by Sarah Lewis of Curve Lake First Nation, who is Peterborough’s Poet Laureate. Lewis will be featured during the festival’s campfire series alongside David Maracle of Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory, hosted by Alderville First Nation Chief Dave Mowat, and Suzie Undgerleider and Julian Taylor, hosted by Ken Tizzard.
Willow Hill and the Barn will also host a host of talented musicians including Natalie MacMaster, Joel Plaskett, William Prince, Eve Parker Finley, Ofra Harnoy, Barbra Lica, Carol Welsman, Karina Gauvin, Queer Songbook Orchestra, Brian Finely, OKAN, Michael Kaeshammer , Mary Walsh, ABBA Mia and Canadian Brass.
Officials promised spectators not just a great performance, but an incredible experience with gourmet picnics in the meadows, wine and beer selections from the Milk Shed, guided nature walks in the nearby nature reserve and a chance to relax by the pond.
“Westben is where music comes to life amid breathtaking nature,” said Westben co-founder Donna Bennett.
Sensitive to ongoing pandemic considerations, Westben has installed moveable seating to allow for flexibility and physical distancing, added new circulation fans, and can open its doors to make any performance feel like an outdoor experience. In 2021, Westben also created two new outdoor venues on the property with Willow Hill, a natural grassy amphitheater and the more intimate Campfire venue.
During the pandemic, Westben has continued to entertain the community through his Digital Concerts at the Barn series, which continues to feature monthly premieres for everyone to see, as well as archived concerts, podcasts and behind-the-scenes footage, on Westben’s new Digital Venue, YouTube. channel or website.
