Legendary American singer Tony Bennett will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award at this month’s Jazz FM Awards with PPL and PRS for Music. The singer, who has sold more than 50 million records during his 70-year career, will receive the award at the ceremony at Under the Bridge in Chelsea, west London on October 28.

The singer, who has sold more than 50 million records in an illustrious 70-year career, will receive the award at the ceremony at Under the Bridge in Chelsea, west London on October 28.

Famous British saxophonist Courtney Pine CBE, winner of the Gold Award, will also be honored at this year’s ceremony. Pine and Bennett join a long list of artists who have received one of Jazz FM’s special awards including Herbie Hancock, Quincy Jones, Gregory Porter, Norah Jones, Dame Cleo Laine, George Benson, Pat Metheny, Georgie Fame and Ahmad Jamal.

Jazz FM Content Director Nick Pitts said: “We are absolutely delighted that the legendary Tony Bennett, one of the true greats of jazz whose music has touched so many millions of people around the world, has accepted. to receive this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

“In the meantime, we can’t wait for the world to attend this year’s ceremony which is not only crowned with this award for Tony alongside gold for Courtney Pine, but there will be some real surprises in the room with some stunning performance.Ride on October 28th.

This year’s Jazz FM Awards will be hosted by Jazz FM presenter Anne Frankenstein and British jazz saxophonist Soweto Kinch, and can be watched live on the station’s Facebook page.

Nominees this year include saxophonist Nubya Garcia, singer Celeste, London soul collective SAULT, American pianist and singer Jon Batiste, trumpeter Emma-Jean Thackray, producer and DJ Floating Points with the London Symphony Orchestra and Pharoah Sanders, singer neo-soul-songwriter Ego Ella May, Italian-British singer Georgia Mancio and legendary viola player Gary Bartz.

Additionally, for the first time, the event will be followed by a NOLA-themed afterparty for winners and special guests hosted by LouisianaTravel.com with a special DJ set from Jazz FM’s Big Easy presenter, DJ Lil ‘ Koko.
