Acclaimed Canadian trumpeter Jens Lindemann comes to Surrey for a concert with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra this Saturday evening, January 8th.

At the Bell Performing Arts Center in Sullivan Heights, the “Surrey Nights” concert series will be sold at 50% capacity, in accordance with applicable provincial health ordinances.

Lindemann and the VSO promise “thrilling and virtuoso” interpretations of Leopold Mozart’s “Toy Symphony”, Joseph Haydn’s “Trumpet Concerto”, Charles Ives ‘”The Unanswered Question” and “The Masters’ Dream. »By Alan Gilliland, starting at 7 p.m.

Tickets are sold at vancouversymphony.ca, or call 604-876-3434. Seats start at $ 39.76, plus fees and taxes.

The first classical brass soloist to receive the Order of Canada, Lindemann is considered one of the most famous artists in the history of his instrument, according to a biography published on trumpetsolo.com.

He has played jazz and classical in every major concert hall in the world. Now based in Los Angeles, Lindemann is also director of the summer brass program at the Banff Center in Canada.

The January 8 concert will be the second of three “Surrey Nights” performed by the VSO this season, two fewer than usual for the annual series. The orchestra’s 2021-22 concert schedule was revealed on September 7 with some changes for its 103rd music season, due to pandemic restrictions.

On February 20, a “Mozart, Bach & Bartók” concert will feature violist Hung-Wei Huang, concertmaster Nicholas Wright and Otto Tausk, musical director of the VSO.

In a December 17 press release, VSO operators said the orchestra “remains committed to the health and safety of our audience, musicians and staff” and that all concerts would be reduced to 50 % of their capacity from December 20, until further notice.

“Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, the VSO has prioritized the well-being of members of our public,” the statement noted. “This fall, as we returned to live concerts, even when health regulations allowed full capacity, we maintained reduced capacity for the comfort of the audience. The VSO maintained 60% capacity limits on our regular series concerts and continued to default comfortable seats away between parties. As we head into our Winter / Spring 2022 season, we will be adjusting our capacity limits to 50% and continue to set up comfortable remote seating between parties. “

For music fans uncomfortable attending live performances, the VSO is offering subscription packages to VSO Online, a new digital series that features full shows broadcast live from the Orpheum Theater in Vancouver. . Next come the Carnival of NOS Animaux (February 13, 2 p.m.), followed by Mozart, Bach & Bartok (February 19, 8 p.m.).
